Michael Amato is a communications consultant to non-profits and advocacy organizations and has more than a decade of strategic, political, and crisis communications experience from his time serving in senior positions in both Congress and the Obama Administration.
As Director of Communications for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Mike led the agency’s internal and external communications, including crisis and rapid response strategies following one of the largest data breaches in U.S. Government history. He also served as a senior advisor to the OPM director.
Prior to OPM, Mike served on the House Armed Services Committee where he was the Communications Director for the minority and chief spokesman for the Committee’s Ranking Member. In that role, he coordinated messaging and developed and implemented communications strategies on national security and foreign policy matters. Mike also coordinated messaging around the Select Committee on Benghazi. Prior to this role, Mike served as Communications Director for Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA).
Before his time on Capitol Hill, Mike was the Assistant Press Secretary for Philadelphia Mayor John Street. Mike is from Philadelphia and graduated from Temple University.
