Kelsey Donohue served as Assistant Press Secretary for First Lady Michelle Obama focusing primarily on media relations and digital strategy. During her time at the White House, Kelsey supported the strategic communications for the First Lady’s official portfolio, including her four main policy initiatives; Let’s Move!, Joining Forces, Reach Higher, and Let Girls Learn. While in the East Wing, Kelsey coordinated segments for local and national media outlets and profiles in publications such as the New York Times and The Verge. In addition to day-to-day media relations, Kelsey was the lead content creator for the First Lady’s digital platforms and oversaw strategic partnerships with influencers and new media outlets such as NowThis, ATTN, TheSkimm, and Tastemade. In addition, Kelsey supported the First Lady’s international outreach, developing strategic engagement for her travel overseas to Argentina, Cambodia, Cuba, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Kingdom.
With a passion for education policy and women’s issues, Kelsey’s career in Washington, DC has included communication and digital strategy roles at the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of State, and EMILY’s List. Kelsey is a native New Yorker and is currently splitting her time between the East Coast and El Paso, Texas, where her family is stationed at Fort Bliss.
